Fake cops con man outside police station
In a bizarre happening, two men conned the driver of a city businessman by posing as cops. Surprisingly, the incident took place in front of R T Nagar traffic police station while the driver Rajesh was on his way home after dropping his boss at the airport.According to Rajesh, a man dressed in khaki forced him to stop the car and alleged that he was driving rashly and had overtaken his senior's car. Soon, another man, who was dressed in plain clothes but introduced himself as a traffic cop, joined him and got into Rajesh's car.They, then, asked Rajesh to drive, as the senior officer wanted to meet him. When Rajesh opposed, they threatened to book him under various sections. Frightened of the consequences that he would have to face, Rajesh obeyed whatever they said.The duo instructed Rajesh to drive towards Nelamangala. Once there, they took him to Mallige Resort, locked him in one of the rooms, took the keys of his car and left saying that the officer will be there at any moment and will meet him. But when the officer didn't turn up, Rajesh realised that he had been conned and called the resort staff for help.He then called up his boss immediately and narrated the incident to him. Acting upon his boss's directions, Rajesh rushed to Sanjay Nagar police station and registered a complaint. The police have registered a case of robbery against the duo.According to the officer who is investigating the case, the accused may be a part of a gang that's operating in the city by posing as cops. Another major fire in Bangalore, no casualties
Bangalore held its breath on Monday afternoon as smoke began filling the sky near the Bangalore Club at about 1.30 pm.A fire had begun at NYK's Pub on Residency Road in the heart of the city. The pub is located on the fourth floor of a commercial building called Gold Towers.Within seconds, people working in offices nearby were tweeting their photos and comments. One tweeter posted, "I can hear the fire engine arriving now."The city is still recovering from the shock of another huge fire at Carlton Towers less than a month ago in which nine people were killed. Some of them had jumped in panic from the top floors of the commercial building and did not survive the fall. Like most other weekdays, the pub was virtually empty.A total of 14 fire engines were used to battle the humongous flames. Firefighters confirm that the owners of the building were conducting a hawan on an open-air terrace. They will not comment on whether the hawan may have caused the fire. What do they explain is that the hawan was held right next to the pub's wooden dance floor, most of which is now charred.
We're anxious to see you in India, PM tells Obama

This is what Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told US President Barack Obama during their 50-minute talks on the sidelines of the Nuclear Safety Summit yesterday. Singh said "the President had caught the imagination of millions around the world, including the people of India who were anxious to see him soon in our country", Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao told reporters here. India has extended an invitation to Obama to visit the country which is expected to take place later this year. "Our Prime Minister said that we in India were looking forward eagerly to the visit of President and Mrs Obama to India later this year," Rao said. "A visit is definitely planned for this year. We do not have dates as yet but both Governments are working on that," she said. "We were greatly looking forward to this visit," Singh was quoted as telling Obama.
