Ajith in European Formula-2 Motor Car racing

Ajith Kumar’s penchant for fast cars and racing habits is well known to the people. The star, who has many a time participated in the car-racing event at Cholavaram off Chennai and in many other places, recently signed a contract permitting him to participate in the ‘FIA Formula-2 European Championship’ motor car racing events.
Ajith had participated in international racing events in the years 2003 and 2004. Due to his recurring back-pain, he had shied away from taking part in international and other events for the past few years. Looking fit and trim and probably armed with the success of his latest film ‘Asal’, Ajith has reportedly decided to take part in those events. Besides Ajith, professional racers like Armaan Ibrahim and Partheev Sureshwaran are also slated to represent the country in those events. As a prelude to the main event, Ajith may train at Snetertone and Silverstone tracks to be better equipped to face the real test. After he completes the European championships, Ajit is expected to make the announcement about his upcoming 50th film.

Sad State

It is now sixty three years since we ‘attained’ independence, i.e, since we decided to rule ourselves. Have we as a nation, as a democracy, acquitted ourselves creditably? We have had several elections, right from 1952. And yet we couldn’t streamline the election process effectively. This indeed is a sad state.The Pennagaram assembly by-poll is to be held tomorrow. All is set for the polling. Concerned over complaints of distribution of liquor, money and sarees, the Election Commission has directed the Tamil Nadu government to take "effective measures" to check corrupt practices by political parties!In a communications to the state Chief Secretary as also the Chief Electoral Officer, the EC sought an action-taken report on the series of steps it has asked to be taken to ensure free and fair poll. "You are requested to instruct the police administration down the line up to the police station level to take effective measures so that corrupt practices by political parties or individuals to lure voters to cast vote in their favour are stopped at all costs", the EC said in the direction. It wanted the erring officials to be "effectively punished".Besides, it said three additional companies of Central police should be deployed in the constituency in addition to the six companies already deputed.The Commission also directed the CEO to station in Dharmapuri, under which the assembly falls, himself and personally monitor the developments.It also deputed another observer in addition to two already posted there to monitor the election process and apprise the EC of the latest situation. This is an indication of the maturity we have managed to gather during the course of six decades!

136 JK govt buildings vacated by security forces

Jammu, Mar 27 Jammu and Kashmir government today said the security forces have vacated 136 of its buildings in the valley in the last years.Replying to a question by Choudary Mohmmad Ramzan in the state Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a written reply that 136 government buildings have been vacated by security forces in the valley in the last three years and the government was keen to ensure that all its buildings are vacated.However, the vacating of buildings was subject to the availability of suitable and alternative accommodation for security forces, he said. - (Agencies)
