CM has not taken any steps to resolve Cauvery dispute: Pandian

Madurai, Mar 24 : CPI leader D Pandian has alleged that DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has not taken any step to reslove the vexed Cauvery issue, despite his party being an ally of the present UPA government and he being at the helm of affairs five times since 1968."Karunanidhi's party is an ally of the present UPA government and he has held the post of Chief Minister five times since 1968. But he has not taken any steps to resolve the Cauvery water dispute," he told reporters here last night.He also found fault with DMK ministers at the Centre for not raising any questions in Parliament about the hike in prices of petrol and diesel.

Rajasthan Royals post 183 for 5 against Kings XI

Chennai,Mar24 : Spurious drugs valued at Rs one crore have been seized from a private godown here in the wake of authorities unearthing a racket in sale of expired medicines.Special teams have been formed to trace five persons believed to be the main accused in the case, including one Meenakshisundram, a police release said.A police team seized the expired and spurious drugs from a godown at Puraswalkam.While seven persons have already been arrested in connection with the case, two others have surrendered before a local court, police said.Police said they were coordinating with Drugs Control authorities to prevent sale of spurious and expired drugs.Recently, police recovered spurious and expired drugs from different parts of the state including Chennai which were allegedly meant for sale after repackaging, following which Chief Minister M Karunanidhi directed officials to tighten vigil and prevent sale of such drugs.He had instructed police and Drugs Control department officials to initiate stringent action against those involved in the trade and bring them to book.

Infrastructucal development works would be completed by April

Coimbatore,Mar 4 : Necessary infrastructural development works for the coming World Tamil Classical Conference beginning here from June 23 are proceeding at full swing and expected to be completed by April, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, K S Sripathy said today.Despite some obstacles,the works taken up so far were satisfactory and repairs of approach roads to the venue at CODISSIA Hall would also be completed by April, Sripathy told reporters, after a review meeting with district and police officials, with regard to the conference.Stating that the overbridge construction at Hope College, just 500 metres from the venue would be completed in another month's time, he said works on renovation of the area around the city airport was also going on a war-footing.The city corporation has taken up works for constructing footpath, parks and installing streetlights and if required, necessary manpower would be provided for speeding up the works, Sripathy said.
